Mark’s Gospel begins with the ministry of John the Baptist. There he was, out in the wilderness, preaching and baptizing people. John knew his mission. He knew who he was. He understood his calling, and he was fulfilling it. John’s purpose was to prepare the way for Christ’s arrival. He planted seeds everywhere he went so that the people would be ready to receive Jesus. In the same way, our lives should always plants seeds that point the way to Christ.
John also shows us that when you know who you are, when you know your purpose other people can’t make you into something you’re not. When you know who you are, the opinions of others, their ideas, misperceptions, and critics won’t distract you. When you’re focused on what you’re good at and what you’re called to do, you won’t be tempted to commit to things that will waste your time or drain your energy even if they look important, even if they look impressive, even it they will make you look good. Like laser, focused energy is power. As you live the life God’s called you to, you will be a testimony that prepares the way for others to know Him, too! You can, do this!
