But Jesus made no response to any of the charges, much to the governor’s surprise (Matthew 27:14).
One of the greatest tests of self-control comes when we have to listen to false accusations. Our natural reaction is to get defensive, and we can hardly wait to counterattack with sharp words of our own.
Standing in front of Pilate, Jesus had to listen to vicious criticism and false accusations. He had done no wrong, yet was attacked without mercy. What did Jesus do in the face of unfairness? The Scripture says, “He made no response.” In other words, He rose above it. His attitude was, “My life will do the talking. Time will answer my critics.”
When somebody’s talking about you and being disrespectful, you have to make a decision, “Am I going to start running around talking bad about them? Am I going to argue and try to prove that I’m right? Or am I going to rise above it and let my life answer for me?
Silence is powerful! It will make a difference because God has observed it all. He’s the One who will eventually settle all accounts with truth and justice.
